19 of Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been earned on hardcourt

A revitalized Medvedev won his first championship for over two years with victory over opponent Moutet in the competition championship match.

The athlete, a ex- world number one, has endured a difficult year, achieving just one win at the major tournaments and suffering a meltdown at the American major.

Medvedev's varied form on the professional circuit - and issues with his serve in specific - led to him dropping out of the top ten and finally parting ways with long-time coach Gilles Cervara.

Currently training with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has gradually progressed in the recent weeks - culminating in a tightly fought three-set win over opponent Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's first title following the Rome competition and initial on a hard court since that period of 2023.

Victory also means the Russian has won twenty-one titles at 21 distinct events.

"It's the first time I have attended a event with my two daughters at once, so to secure a trophy is especially meaningful," stated ranked player Medvedev.

"This title is in tribute of my child her name, because the maiden victory I got when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his previous six finals, including in the German tournament earlier this year.

His counter-punching approach and recurring outbursts on the tennis court had caused observers to doubt if his skill to play at the top level was concluded.

However the athlete has made changes in the last few weeks, attempting to approach the net and play positively, reinforced by an improved serve.

The champion fought back from a deficit in the initial set against the challenging Frenchman, winning 4 of the concluding five points to take the lead.

Both players traded break points in the second set before the Frenchman, striving for his first ATP Tour championship, seized the initiative to force a final set.

He defended four early chances in a tight third set before Medvedev secured a break to that score to secure the win.

Suitably, Medvedev secured the win with a shot at the front of the court, with his opponent failing to control a volley after a lengthy match.
